Hallstatt
Impressions-
We had seen enough pictures to know that Hallstatt would be a beautiful place, but pictures could not prepare us for the quaint charm and beauty of this town! It seems to be right out of a fairy tale, complete with giant swans (paddle boats) and flowers in abundance. It reminded us a little of Varenna on Lake Como; delightfully small and charming, with delightfully little to do. The perfect place to relax, walk around and enjoy the surroundings. We got chased from our twilight photo spot by a tremendous storm complete with lighting, thunder and torrential rain. We're Californians and it was the first rain we'd seen in quite some time so we thoroughly enjoyed it! We highly recommend the Hotel Gruner Baum. Our room, with a balcony overlooking the town square, was the nicest of our trip. One night in Hallstatt is not enough!
These are a few of my favorite things...
Evening & Morning in Hallstatt- Twilight and dawn are my favorite times of the day. I knew the town overlook would be outstanding for pictures at those times, so we made sure we were there. Our evening stroll was cut a bit short by the most amazing thunderstorm imaginable so we were up before the sun to wander around and see the town come to life. The morning light was fantastic as was the view from our breakfast table at the hotel. We had to leave all too soon.
Plants and Flowers of Hallstatt- Susan was quite taken by all of the flowers around the town in planters and window boxes. Balconies were explosions of color, clearly well tended and happy! Edelweiss...Edelweiss...Every morning you greet me...
